The crescent moon was beautiful last night.
She was low on the horizon, glowing softly in the evening sky.
I could see her full outline in shadow, the darkened part of her still present even though only a small arc of light was visible.
Light and shadow working together.
We do not have to be fully visible to be whole.
We do not have to be at our brightest to be beautiful.
There is wisdom in the shadow, too.
I got to share that moment with my daughter, who was home for a brief two days before she continued her travels east.
So many threads of the spiral overlapped as I dropped her off at the airport:
- the Maiden setting out on the path of discovery
- the waxing crescent moon
- late springtime
- 2026 is a 1 year in numerology
One of the ways we can reclaim feminine wisdom, power, and intuition is through simple noticing.
Pausing.
Looking up.
Looking inward.
Letting the moon remind us of the never-ending spiral of birth, growth, death, and decay.
Letting the sky remind us that we are supported by our ancestors, the motherline, standing behind us. We are part of something rhythmic, ancient, and much larger than the narrow stories the dominant culture tells us about who we are and what we can be.
The Blue Moon on May 30-31, 2026 will be the most distant full micromoon of 2026. A micromoon happens when the full moon is farthest from Earth. Because she is farther away, she may appear slightly smaller than an average full moon, but she still reflects all of our brilliance back to us.
The Supermoon usually gets the glory, but this year the micromoon is Luna’s understated pearl to the Supermoon’s showy diamond.
A Blue Moon does not mean the moon will look blue. This is a calendar Blue Moon, which means it is the second full moon in a single calendar month. May began with the Flower Moon at Beltane on May 1 and will close with the Blue Moon overnight on May 30-31.
There is something beautiful in that symbolism.
A moon that is full, but distant.
A light that may appear smaller, but is no less complete.
I’ll be watching her radiance grow toward fullness as the month draws to a close.
Maybe you will too.
If you see her, take a moment to pause. Notice what is growing in you. Notice what is still in shadow. Notice what is already whole, even if it is not yet fully illuminated.
This is the quiet work of Moon Wisdom and the reclaiming of feminine wisdom.
And if you are longing to explore that wisdom in community, you are warmly invited to gather with us in a Summer Moon Wisdom Circle this July.
